The Royal Prussian Army was the principal armed force of the Kingdom of Prussia during its participation in the Napoleonic Wars. Cavalrymen—the darlings not only of the Emperor but also of all period artists since—had their plumed helmets, metal cuirassier breastplates, and long sabers, but nonetheless had trouble with their pants: “They were hard to keep clean, would stretch when wet, were hard to dry, and dried stiff as a board, sometimes shrinking in the process.” Regiment of (Light) Dragoons — grey facings, silver lace and buttons, blue and grey belt, grey dolmans forward together with two other battalion formed in columns screened by their own skirmishers. In the end of As the impoverished state of Prussian finances precluded much assistance from the State, the expense of equipment had to fall on the men themselves, or their villages. ... At first, the front rank was often armed with pikes or scythes, and it was only as French muskets were taken from the battlefields that the men were armed with yet another pattern of firearm.

The outbreak of the French Revolution had been received with great alarm by the rulers of Europe's continental powers, which had been further exacerbated by the execution of Louis XVI, and the overthrow of the French monarchy. In 1793, Austria, the Kingdom of Sardinia, the Kingdom of Naples, Prussia, the Kingdom of Spain, and the Kingdom of Great Britain formed the First Coalition to curtail the growing unrest in France. Measures such as mass conscription, military reforms, and total war allowed France to defeat the coalition, despite the concurrent civil war in France. Napoleon, then a general in the French Revolutionary Army, forced the Austrians to sign the Treaty of Campo Formio, leaving only Great Britain opposed to the fledgling French Republic. The senior company or Zug (with the lower number) was always formed up on the right. The files were also counted starting from the right. Every regiment had a squad of Sappers who were generally dressed as grenadiers with red epaulettes and a cross axes badge on the upper sleeves, a bearskin cap with red cords and feather but no plate. They were equipped with a long leather apron, white gauntlet gloves, and an axe with a brass mounted handle. It was customary for sappers to grow beards. Napoleon won the War of the Third Coalition at Austerlitz, forcing the Austrian Empire out of the war and formally dissolving the Holy Roman Empire. Within months, Prussia declared war, triggering a War of the Fourth Coalition. This war ended disastrously for Prussia, which was defeated and occupied within 19 days of the beginning of the campaign. Napoleon subsequently defeated Russia at Friedland, creating powerful client states in Eastern Europe and ending the Fourth Coalition. Regiment of (Light) Dragoons (Hussars) — white facings, silver lace and buttons, blue and white sash, grey dolmans which would be used to form skirmish line with small reserves. The skirmishers were drawn from the third ranks Basically, I would say there was not big difference between the offcial pattern and the privately made ones. The advantage of having many (or, best, only) rifles of the same pattern within a unit are that it s easier to have spare parts for repair at hand, and the same caliber eases ammunitiopn supply a lot. From 2 December 1808, in peacetime, a regiment had 1 staff officer as commander (who will have been assigned a lieutenant from the regiment as adjudant).Freytag-Loringhoven wrote, "The Prussian infantry at one time took the Frederician maxim of marching boldly

On parade, the detachment stood on the right flank of the battalion. Marching past a superior, they were at the head of the battalion, in front of the musicians, the battalion commander and his adjudant at their (the volunteers') head. to stress "the main and essential points: advancing, retiring, forming columns, movement in columns, Prior to the 1740s, Royal Navy officers and sailors had no established uniforms, although many of the officer class typically wore upper-class clothing with wigs to denote their social status. Coats were often dark blue to reduce fading caused by the rain and spray, with gold embroidery on the cuffs and standing collar to signify the officer's wealth and status. The early Royal Navy also had only three clearly established shipboard ranks: captain, lieutenant, and master. This simplicity of rank had its origins in the Middle Ages, where a military company embarked on ship (led by a captain and a lieutenant) operated independently from the handling of the vessel, which was overseen by the ship's master.
