The Design of the 20th Century Book charts a course of crucial transformations in design and expression--from visual art to furniture and beyond. Since around the turn of the 20th century, as urban populations steadily increased, architects and planners have faced the challenges of designing new housing and public space.

This migration, along with their professional and teaching activities, would play a major role in shaping postwar American art and design. Encyclopaedia Britannica's editors oversee subject areas in which they have extensive knowledge, whether from years of experience gained by working on that content or via study for an advanced degree.Yet they also needed to respond to emerging societal challenges, such as reconstruction after two world wars, decolonisation, economic and political crises, growing climatic concerns, and cultural shifts. During World War II, posters were used once again as a major form of political propaganda, although they then functioned alongside radio broadcasts and propaganda films in governmental war efforts. The use of propaganda, that had became popular during the period of the war, had put in focus the national pride and political views in early poster design works.

Tom Avermaete and Janina Gosseye, associate professors of architecture at TU Delft, present a definitive history of urban design.About the series Bibliotheca Universalis - Compact cultural companions celebrating the eclectic TASCHEN universe!

From 1993 to 2007, Fiell was the Editor-in-Charge for design books at the German publishing house, Taschen GmbH, and during that period she, along with her husband, edited/authored 32 titles, including: "1000 Chairs", "Design of the 20th Century", "Industrial Design A-Z", "Scandinavian Design", "Decorative Art" series (six volumes), and "Domus 1928-1999" (twelve-volume set).

In contrast, Flagg used bold lettering and naturalistic portraiture of an allegorical person appealing directly to the potential recruit. As a leading authority of the history, theory, and criticism of design, she has written and edited nearly 70 books on all aspects of design—from physical products and transportation to visual communications and the digital realm—which have been translated into over 20 languages. He employed the techniques of photomontage and collage in his posters, as well as dynamic scale changes, large close-up images, extreme high and low viewpoints, and very tight cropping of images. Among his numerous contributions, Moholy-Nagy introduced a theoretical approach to visual communications.
