The Design of the 20th Century Book charts a course of crucial transformations in design and expression--from visual art to furniture and beyond. Since around the turn of the 20th century, as urban populations steadily increased, architects and planners have faced the challenges of designing new housing and public space.

The use of propaganda, that had became popular during the period of the war, had put in focus the national pride and political views in early poster design works.

As a leading authority of the history, theory, and criticism of design, she has written and edited nearly 70 books on all aspects of design—from physical products and transportation to visual communications and the digital realm—which have been translated into over 20 languages. He employed the techniques of photomontage and collage in his posters, as well as dynamic scale changes, large close-up images, extreme high and low viewpoints, and very tight cropping of images. Among his numerous contributions, Moholy-Nagy introduced a theoretical approach to visual communications.
