This loving story is interwoven with some of the major world and national events that took place between the 1930s and 1970s, including a world war, landing on the moon and the arrival of the NHS. I loved the art and colors in this one, and was delighted by the clear affection the author has for his parents.

Jacket has edge wear, small chips to head and toe of the spine, a few very minor surface marks, now protected in a removable clear plastic sleeve. Read about how Ethel always fusses over him as mothers always will, while Ernest moderates as fathers always will. The reissue of Briggs' award winning illustrated story of his parents, issued by Jonathan Cape the year after the book was first published. However, Briggs continued to produce humour for children, in works such as the Unlucky Wally series and The Bear.I just feel that Ethel sometimes came across as someone who thought she was better than others which diminished the affinity I had with her. Nothing is invented, nothing embroidered – this is the reality of two decent, ordinary lives of two people who, as Briggs tells the story, become representative of us all. This graphic novel for adults covers the lives of Raymond Briggs parents from when they first met to their deaths. The BOOK has been inscribed by the author to the title page : 'For Anthony May, with best wishes, Raymond Briggs, 23 March 2001'.

The Tin-Pot Foreign General and the Old Iron Woman (1984) was a scathing denunciation of the Falklands War. With the loss of Briggs last week, it seemed important to mark the occasion by re-reading some of his works. Their son became a famous illustrator and author and never had to live below poverty level or be a working class. Met deze strip sloot ik de cyclus van de vier graphic novels/strips, die autobiografisch of sterk autobiografische elementen bevatten, af: The Snowman, Gentleman Jim, When the Wind Blows en deze. His graphic novel Ethel and Ernest, which portrayed his parents' 41-year marriage, won Best Illustrated Book in the 1999 British Book Awards. They don't believe he will be making any money and they don't understand the difference between pursuing what you love versus getting a typical 9-5 job and be bored and resenting every moment of that. Briggs won the 1966 and 1973 Kate Greenaway Medals from the British Library Association, recognising the year's best children's book illustration by a British subject.

We specialise in hard to find and international magazine titles including Apartamento, L'Étiquette, Popeye and Gentlewoman along with a range of fiction and non-fiction books from a wide range of independent publishers. While we see Raymond growing up as a boy, we get the back drop of WWII and how they had to send Raymond to live in the country side while London is being destroyed by German bombs. The clipped dustwrapper is likewise Near Fine+: clean and bright - an unusually fresh example; a tiny mark and small rub to the heel of the spine; presented in a removable, archival-quality Brodart protective cover. For the 50th anniversary of the Medal (1955–2005), a panel named Father Christmas (1973) one of the top-ten winning works, which composed the ballot for a public election of the nation's favourite. This was such a short and sweet book and I enjoyed every aspect of it from the storyline, the illustrations and how grateful we are as human beings when parents try and make the life of their children better than what they went through. In a colour pictorial laminated hardback cover with black titles to spine and red and black titles to front. The story is a simple one; his parents meeting, marrying and then living a fairly typical family life with the author as their one and only son.
