I used the daypack fairly often, especially during more adventurous activities, including a Mount Batur sunrise trek in Bali. compatible laptop sleeve (34 x 28cm) and padded zippered pocket (24 x 28cm) inside the daysack’s main compartment.

A mesh back panel improves ventilation and the mesh on harness and waist belt reduces friction under load. Make sure you download Google Maps and, for each new destination, download an offline map of your location and surrounding area. I guess it’s supposed to be sleek and with the ability to attach a day bag to it, extra pockets would be in the way, so it makes sense. Whether you’re travelling abroad or packing around the UK, the Women’s Fairview 55 will provide all the storage and convenience you need. But the main pack is now carry-on size — in fact, it has the exact same dimensions as the Farpoint 40. The Daypack will clip into the front shoulder straps of the Farpoint/Fairview 40 and attach to the back exactly the same way as the 55. However, if you want a larger bag, then perhaps something like a 50 or even 60-liter backpack would be more efficient.

We’re yet to get our hands on the Osprey Fairview 55, however, we have had 5 months of testing in South East Asia with the Farpoint 70 with the pair sharing plenty of similarities. The harness is also much sturdier than the other Farpoints, making it much nicer to wear for longer periods of time. There are a few pockets on a day bag, but since I was using it as an actual day bag, I was definitely missing a few pockets on the main bag that would help me organize my junk. The main pack acts similar to a suitcase or a duffle bag more than it does a backpack thanks to the ability to open the whole pack – super useful when looking for that hat you’ve definitely left at the bottom. Only used twice so far, 2 weeks in Morocco and 3 in Scotland, but this is going to be the bag I take on my year long adventure next year.

I’m similarly 6’5″ tall and need a versatile pack suitable for general travel in Europe and Asia, trekking the Camino, on and off trains, etc. Osprey have now doubled the colour offerings with Black, Winter Night Blue, Zircon Red and Night Jungle Blue. This latest edition introduces some well-considered improvements that make it more comfortable for longer carry, though fortunately without adding to the pack’s overall weight. In my opinion, the Porter also has terrible shoulder straps, while the Farpoint’s are very comfortable. My only con for this is not the size of the zipper rings but that the pulls on the zipper are somewhat awkwardly placed, and if the bag is completely open, it can be hard to get the zipper started to close it back up. The Fairview should be suitable for most women, but the Farpoint larger sizing if the Fairview isn’t quite right for you. The daypack acts as the laptop sleeve and small trinket organizer, while the main compartment is more of a bucket-style catch-all compartment for your clothing, shoes, toiletries, etc.

If we separate and set the daypack to one side for just a second and focus on the main pack, it’s evident that this isn’t your typical backpack. Both have a laptop/tablet sleeve but the new model allow it to be used as a hydration bladder sleeve which the addition of left and right tube ports. These fabrics are used in different thicknesses depending on where Osprey anticipate the most wear occuring—450D polyester throughout the main body and 500D nylon in areas subject to more abuse. Now updated for 2022 it has a few key changes including sizing, colourways and back system which I’ll outline in this review. It also contains a zip closure and 13L clip, to organize yourself comfortably; an upper pocket for storing electronic devices and sunglasses, double side pockets and a laptop sleeve. It’s inside that counts and with 55L to play inside the main compartment, there’s plenty of room for all travel essentials. If you put anything inside the bag, it becomes impossible to carry a water bottle in these mesh pockets. If you are travelling for a week or two and looking for a versatile and durable bag with a detachable day bag and a suitcase-like opening – Osprey Fairview or Farpoint 55 is for you!
