Description

The controller has software built into it that puts a deadzone on the analog sticks before the input is registered on games you play on PC. Now, this may set off a red flag for many, as Chinese-manufactured products have been getting a bad reputation over the past two decades—and that’s perfectly fair to assume. This can be used to program actions, such as constantly pressing A to shoot a weapon or to pick up items in Animal Crossing. In Switch wireless mode on Steam the controller seems to be able to handle simultaneous input fine, but latency can be noticeable the more inputs are held, and sometimes it looks like very short inputs are missed, mainly when hammering many other buttons.

Take note of how I said “in theory” as it’s unknown how long it’ll take for this controller to drift if it does at all. I wouldn’t know, I wasn’t a game developer in the 7th Console Generation, and would need the opinion of an industry veteran. Most controllers do not start to drift until quite a few months into their life, if not a couple of years, so truly testing this controller will be a long review. I took apart the controller multiple times which could leave some marks to mod the switches a bit trying out a linea vs the lubricated tactile. I particularly like the contrast between the chrome bumpers and triggers and the black body on the version I tested. More textured are the back of the hand grips which bear a dotted pattern which have a nice feel to the touch. All the motion aiming functions are handled within the controller, so even if you have motion turned off in you switch, you can still use it only when the left trigger is pressed.

Everything seems to work absolutely fine as well, I took Breath of the Wild for a spin to try out the motion controls and the amiibo support, and all features work flawlessly.Despite the bulky footprint of GuliKit’s controller, the case is a nice addition if you want to throw it into your bag without worrying about damage. If you have used this feature before you’ll know how handy it can be, and it works very quickly and efficiently here.
