Description

I like that he uses the final chapter to summarise the majority of the key points from his interviewees. You won’t get a textbook on how to have a better conversation, so if you are looking for a “how-to” guide, then I suggest you look elsewhere. Really enjoyed the start, particularly the bit about children maths test snd how their hormones were impacted depending on whether they spoke to someone after or if the texted. That being said it was an easy read and some of the stories were fun to go through, but if you are looking for ways to have better conversations this isn’t the book.

I enjoyed the voice clips of the people he interviewed and I wish that dialogue could have been more present. The only thing lacking for me was actual transcripts of the conversations, in raw form, before they are converted into the prose of the book. Rather the book is a meandering (and sometimes somewhat self-indulgent) description about why conversation is a lost art (yes, you guessed it… phones/social media/increasingly polarised societies) and why this needs to be reversed.A book that involves some interesting information to glean about the art of talk, from some interesting people. It is entirely from the heart , an impassioned please for more meaningful conversation amid this era of online squabbling and all too easy animosity. A much-used word, karma is loosely understood as a system of checks and balances in our lives, of good actions and bad deeds, of good thoughts and bad intentions. Let's Talk authorial voice is recognisably Nihal Arthanayeke (if you have listened to his radio interviews). He wants to know what it really means to have a ‘great conversation’ and, most importantly, how he can teach us to have better interactions in our everyday lives.

Was it challenging, did you learn something – information or insight – and did it create a connection? New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter. According to Johann Hari which is literally quoted in this book saying that such a thing as tweeting keeps you distracted for about 25 minutes every time. With insights from ‘professional conversationalists’ from various sectors, this is a thoughtful read with some practical takeaways on how to have better conversations. Nihal is nothing less than the most intelligent interviewer in British broadcasting, so I had high expectations for his book on conversations, and it doesn't disappoint.

He currently presents a daily daytime show on BBC 5 Live, and his unique interviewing style was recently recognised at the BBC Radio and Music Awards where he won Interview of the Year. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money. It is entirely from the heart, an impassioned please for more meaningful conversation amid this era of online squabbling and all too easy animosity.Nihal is a master of the art of conversation, one of the country's finest and smartest interviewers, and his book is both brilliant and necessary. There's a reason We Are Legion was named Audible's Best Science Fiction Book of 2016: Its irresistibly irreverent wit! In conclusion, “Let’s Talk: How to Have Better Conversations” is a book that gives us insight into why conversations, even the most difficult, as ones that are worth having, I leave you with a quote from one of our previous book club authors, Matt Haig “ A very impassioned defence of conversation as an art”.
