However, Nightwing brings an attitude, style, and level of action to the comics that is very entertaining. While he still believes in the Dark Knight's crusade, it's time for him to don a new uniform, a new name, and a new lifestyle. Talking to Dick like he means nothing to him, shouting at him, humiliating him, betraying him, immediately replacing him behind his back and dressing him in Dicks own clothes.

They only recently reprinted Nightwing: Year One in a deluxe edition, only for it to go out of print again too. Fully recommend for fans of Dixon and Beatty's previous work, Nightwing readers and any Batman readers looking to round out the story like I was. Just over a decade in fact, and it especially becomes mind boggling to think that characters such as Tim Drake Robin, Catwoman and even Azrael all got solo titles before Dick did. Like, I'm not entirely sure how old Dick is here but the next thing we see, he's bunking in a motel because he's broke. That may seem like a dumb little detail, but there is always a bubbling movement among the top guns of comics to reference only the really iconic mainstream-friendly stuff in their larger works, which for Dick Grayson means it would be easy for Morrison to act as if he shot straight from Robin to Batman and treat the middle years with vagueness, but flat out in the first issue he makes direct reference to Dick's time as a cop in Bludhaven, and that was just tremendous to me.Donning a brand-new uniform, he takes a new name and charts a course that makes the Boy Wonder a man. Any hardcore Batman fan will have this book ruined for him the moment he witness the characters attitude and abuse. There will be a few familiar faces and even the evolution of a costume, but ultimately it is a well told and satisfying tale. The heart of the issue though is the eternal Dick Grayson/Barbara Gordon on-again/off-again romance which is off here because Dick is with Starfire, but which Dixon has always written to perfection. Sorry I am geeking out about this post because you wrote shit that I have been preaching to my friends for years, but another person who really nailed the Superman/Nightwing relationship was Tomasi.

Dixon’s tales were exciting, exploring new territory, while still keeping Dick Grayson just within the sphere of the other Bat-titles. Lastly, a moment that deserves a brief special mention is when Grayson seeks advice from Superman - the Man of Steel, true to his honorable character, provides guidance and inspiration to the upset and directionless young man, and it was probably the best-written scene in the story. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. We see the origins of his solo career when there is a break up of the partnership between Bruce and Dick and how it happens after a mission with the Titans and them rescuing a kid, him venturing out on his own and meeting Superman and learning about the kryptonian superhero Nightwing and then following Dick to the Circus again and having strange encounters there and team up with Batgirl after donning his new avatar and finally teaming with the new Robin Jason and saving Alfred in a hilarious story and maybe getting his groove back again!I. Joe for IDW, along with many creator-owned projects including Winterworld and Joe Frankenstein which re-unites him with Bane co-creator Graham Nolan.
